Softball Opens Spring Break at Delaware State Tournament

DOVER, Del. - Lafayette dropped a pair of games on Friday at the Sean Savage Epilepsy Awareness Tournament hosted by Delaware State.
The Leopards faced Brown in the opening round, losing a 5-1 decision, and then chose to forfeit the second game scheduled against Princeton due to weather and injury concerns.
Against Brown, the Leopards gave up a pair of runs in the first and second innings. Trista Chavez double in both runs in the top of the first. In the second, Janet Leung tripled home two more runs, scoring Avery Silverstein who crossed the plate in both innings and finished the game 3-for-5.
The Bears (4-6) and Leopards (3-9) traded runs in the sixth inning. Silverstein reached again, this time on an error, and scored on Leung’s single. Leung was 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Freshman Bryn Gornick (1-3) took the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits with five walks and three strikeouts. Jessica Cherness was the winner, giving up one run on four hits with six walks and five strikeouts.
The Leopards are scheduled to return to action on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. when they play Delaware State. The will finish out the tournament on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. against Brown.
