EASTON, Pa. –  Lafayette football brought 16 student-athletes into the fold on National Signing Day. The latest additions to the class of 2023 signed National Letters of Intent and will join eight student-athletes who inked their commitments during the early signing period in December.
Lafayette head coach John Garrett and his coaching staff added nine players on offense, six on defense and one specialist as part of the seventh scholarship recruiting class in the Patriot League era.
"National Signing Day...What a great day for Lafayette football! After signing eight excellent student-athletes in December, we are pleased to add 15 more quality players to an already talented 2019 recruiting class," said Garrett, the Fred M. Kirby '42 Head Football Coach. "The group is a collection of hard-working, mentally-tough student-athletes who love football and are motivated to achieve academically. They are the 'right kind of guys' to help our team break through in 2019! Thank you to our coaches for all their hard work and dedication to constructing a recruiting class to will make us all proud on and off the field."
On offense, the Leopards brought in six wide receivers, two running backs and a tight end. On the defensive side of things, Lafayette added three linebackers, two defensive linemen and one defensive back. A kicker, who will also play baseball at Lafayette, joined the Leopard ranks.
The Class of 2023 shows geographic diversity, highlighted by four players from New Jersey, three from Pennsylvania and Texas and one each from Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina and Virginia.
In the 2018 season, the freshman class made an immediate impact with 15 players seeing action in four or more games. That included eight players who started at least one contest highlighted by Patriot League Rookie of the Year Malik Hamm.
The team's spring season gets underway on March 26 with the Maroon-White Spring Game slated for April 20 at 11 a.m. Lafayette opens the 2019 schedule on Aug. 31 at William & Mary and plays its home opener vs. Sacred Heart two weeks later. The regular season concludes Nov. 23 when Lafayette travels to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania for the 155th meeting of college football's most-played and longest continuous rivalry.
