Volleyball to Hold Dig Pink Event
Sept. 29, 2010
EASTON, Pa. - In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Lafayette volleyball program will be hosting a Dig Pink event on Friday evening for the Leopards' Patriot League home opener against Bucknell at 7 p.m. Fans are invited to wear pink to the match to show their support.
The Leopards will be joined by a special guest on Friday evening, David Heard. David, the son of Lafayette alumnus Tom '91 and Susan Heard, is a student at Easton Area Middle School who is currently battling Neuroblastoma. He will perform the coin toss prior to the match.
Dig Pink is a national breast cancer awareness initiative started by the Side-Out Foundation and held annually during the month of October. This season, the Side-Out Foundation has set a monetary goal of $1.5 million as well as a participation goal of 500 collegiate and 1,000 scholastic programs.
"Dig Pink is a wonderful initiative for a worthy cause," said Lafayette Head Coach Terri Dadio Campbell '92. "We are proud to join our fellow volleyball programs across the nation in support of breast cancer awareness."
The festivities will also feature free pizza courtesy of Big Woody's, numerous raffles throughout the evening and a serving contest. Raffle prizes include a volleyball signed by the Leopards, a Lafayette Volleyball t-shirt and a gift certificate to Campus Pizza.
Admission to Friday's event is free, but fans are encouraged to make a monetary contribution to be donated to the Side-Out Foundation. Donations will be accepted at Leopards' home matches throughout the month of October.
The Side-Out Foundation is a support and advocacy organization dedicated to making a significant and identifiable difference in the lives of breast cancer patients and their families by supporting clinical trials, increasing compassionate support services and educating communities.
