PHILADELPHIA – The Lafayette volleyball fell to Sacramento State in straight sets Saturday afternoon, 25-17, 25-19 and 25-14 in its first match of the La Salle Invitational.

The Leopards were led by senior Karissa Ciliento, who finished the match with a team-high 10 kills. Ciliento and junior Michelle Woodworth each came up with 11 digs on the day, while sophomore Brianne Giangiobbe finished the match with eight kills and two digs.

Ciliento powered the Leopard offense in the first set with five kills, but it wasn’t enough as the Hornets pulled away late in the set for the eight-point victory.

Down 22-11 in the second game, the Leopards put together an 8-1 run to cut the Hornets’ lead to 23-19, and included a pair of aces from sophomore Lauren Pisauro.

The third set was all Sacramento State, as the Hornets won eight of the first ten points and never looked back. The Hornets were led by Sloan Lovett’s 10 kills and Kayla Beal’s nine kills.

The Leopards are back in action tonight against host La Salle at 7 p.m.
