Well, so far we have survived and are now reaching the final days of our preseason. Since arriving on August 14th we have been having double sessions each day. A typical day of preseason began with a team breakfast at our captains' house where expectations brew about the day's upcoming sessions. After arriving to the gym, a solid hour early, the locker room is filled with the sounds of Miley Cyrus and LMFAO blaring as we all quickly change and get down to the training room. Our first session begins with a few conditioning drills and a dynamic stretch.
Once we're all warm and ready we may move into some defense drills or work on offense plays. Today, for example, we worked on serve receive, which is a key component to winning the point. In between sessions we break for lunch and have some time to rest before we head back out onto the court.
The second session usually reflects the same fundamentals worked on in the first session with a slight higher level of difficulty...we may move into a scrimmage scenario. After showered and iced, the team heads to Farinon for a team dinner. Each night we make it a point to spend time after dinner for team bonding. This may include a "getting to know you game," or a trip to Rita's Italian Ice.
Also during preseason we look forward to our annual dinner at the delicious family style Italian restaurant, Buca di Beppo's. During this dinner everyone is to bring something meaningful to them or something about their summer such as a picture or a jewelry item that will allow everyone to learn something new about them. It was great to hear this year about two of our seniors', Cara and Kari, semesters abroad and from what we heard, they had an amazing time!
After much time spent at the gym, Coach Campbell surprised us all with a day of fun in the sun at her lake house!! There the team spent their time tanning in the sun and splashing in the water. Coach was even adventurous enough to take us all out on the boat for tubing! We took some great action shots!! With only a few more days left of preseason the team spirits are high and we can't wait till our first match.
