July 28, 2011

In the first "Dig This" of 2011, juniors Kaitlynn Zoller and Fiorella Bellini count down to the beginning of preseason workouts.

T-minus 12 days until the greatest two weeks of our lives begin. Soon the whole volleyball team will be back on campus getting ready for the upcoming 2011 season! We are all excited to be reunited and bring the incoming freshman into our volleyball family. Preseason will be a nice change to the quietness that is Lafayette during the summer.

Luckily, a few of us have been on campus this summer and we have been able to do our lifts and workouts together. Our days consist of each of us going to work or class and then the social scene begins at around 4:30 p.m. in the Maroon Club Strength Center. Every now and then we will drop into Coach's office to have a chat about how our weeks have been going, and after every visit we always leave with a few words of wisdom. Our personal favorite? "Run faster!"

As these two weeks wind down we have all been getting excited and nervous to get back on the court and play together. We can speak for our whole team when we say that the highlights of our summer days include reading the daily e-mails that we all receive on our volleyball summer e-mail chain. It will be a nice change to be able to carry on a conversation in person.

This summer, the girls on our team have been doing internships here in Pennsylvania, New York and California. Others have filled their summer days in the most exciting way possible: taking Human Anatomy and General Chemistry. The lucky others have been carrying on part-time jobs and leading the normal summer life at home. In these last two weeks, everyone is cracking down and working hard to prepare for preseason. We are all excited to be back together and push forward as a team into this 2011 volleyball season.
