Spotted on Campus With...Kayly Elmer

Easton, Pa. - While things may have slowed down in the Lafayette athletic department during the summer months, many student-athletes remain on College Hill to pursue various academic and athletic endeavors. Lafayette College athletics has decided to catch up with some of the student-athletes to see what they're doing for the summer and to get to know them a little better. Today Lafayette met up with junior volleyball player Kayly Elmer. What are your plans for your summer at Lafayette? What will you be doing after your class is over? I'm taking a sociology class and working at the Kirby Sports Center as a fitness assistant. In the free time I have I keep up with our volleyball workout. After my class is over I look forward to going home relaxing with my family. What is your role on the team? My position is an outside hitter and often the outside hitter's role on the team is to finish the point. What's your major and what do you like about your major? I'm majoring in Economics and the part I enjoy most about it is how relative it is to society now. What is your earliest volleyball memory? First time I touched a volleyball was in sixth grade. One of my best friend's Dad was our coach. A talent I'd like to have is... The ability to sing--not to be the next American Idol but just to be able to carry a tune. The sport I'm worst at is... Floor hockey. Something about me that others would be surprised to hear is... I love coloring. What is your favorite roadtrip and why? My favorite roadtrip was when I flew out to visit my brother, Duncan, at the University of Arizona and then we drove home, back to Chicago. It was fun to see a different part of the country. What is your favorite activity outside of your sport? Why? I love to take naps. What is your favorite word or saying?
"Keep a smile on your face, and love in your heart." My Dad always tells me that.
If someone wrote a book about your life, what would the title be? My Life and Me, Me and My Life Who would play you in a movie about yourself? Katherine Heigl TV show I can't stop watching... Gossip Girl What is the greatest thing you can learn from a loss? The areas of our game we need to focus on. What do you still wish to accomplish? I would love to learn sign language, sky dive, and go up in a hot air balloon. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? Ireland and Scotland!! What is your favorite class and why? My favorite class that I have taken at Lafayette has been the class I am currently taking this summer, Contemporary American Society. It has been really interesting, studying the structure of the family and its involvement in society. Who is the most influent person in your life? The most influential people in my life have been my family and friends. Have any of your experiences at Lafayette involved traveling to new York City? If so, what for? This past semester in my VAST (Values and Science/Technology Program) class we traveled to NYC to visit the United Nations.
