EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette volleyball team announced its 2013 schedule on Tuesday afternoon, featuring 15 matches inside the newly renovated Kirby Sports Center. The Leopards will host two four-team tournaments in the opening weeks of September.
Lafayette will open up on the road in Philadelphia, Pa. for the La Salle Tournament on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. Along with La Salle, Sacramento State and Fairleigh Dickinson will be Lafayette's opposition.
On Sept. 6-7, Lafayette will host the first of two home tournaments in the annual 2013 Lafayette College Tournament. This year's field features Wright State, Fairleigh Dickinson and St. Peter's. Lafayette took first place a year ago, defeating Delaware State (3-1), Fairleigh Dickinson (3-2) and St. Peter's (3-1).
Following a non-conference home matchup with the Terriers of St. Francis Brooklyn, a team the Leopards defeated twice last year in a pair of five-set thrillers, the Maroon and White welcome Marist, Quinnipiac and Morgan State to Kirby Sports Center for the Crosstown Tournament on Sept. 13-14.
Patriot League play opens with a bang on Sept. 18 as the Leopards take the short trip to Bethlehem, Pa. for the first of two matchups with archrival Lehigh.
A trip to Navy will follow on Sept. 21, with two home matches against American and new conference-foe Loyola Maryland wrapping up the month on Sept. 27 and Sept. 28, respectively.
The final non-conference match of the season will open the month of October as the Leopards travel to Newark, N.J. to take on NJIT. Lafayette lost a nail biter last season in Easton to the Highlanders, 3-2.
The Leopards host Bucknell on Oct. 6 and then hit the road for the weekend of Oct. 11-12, taking on Army in West Point, N.Y. and Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass.
The second Lafayette-Lehigh rivalry match will occur on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. inside Kirby Sports Center. The matchup is Lafayette's yearly Dig Pink contest and everyone is encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness.
Following two more home tilts against Colgate and Navy on Oct. 19 and Oct. 25, Lafayette begins its longest road trip of the year with four straight away from Easton. The Leopards will travel to Colgate (10/26), Loyola Maryland (11/1), American (11/2) and Bucknell (11/9).
The Maroon and White finish up the regular season with two matches at home against Holy Cross on Nov. 15 and Army on Nov. 16. The Patriot League Tournament is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 22.
