May 2, 2012
EASTON, Pa. - Head Coach Terri Dadio Campbell '92 has announced that rising seniors Sarah Frohnapfel and Kaitlynn Zoller will serve as team captains for the 2012 season. The senior duo has appeared in a combined 312 sets over the last three seasons for the Leopards.
"Sarah and Katie have done an exceptional job of leading our team this spring," said Campbell. "They have both earned the title of captain, and I look forward to working with them in their senior year."
Frohanpfel led the Leopards with 484 assists and 7.93 assists per set in 2011. Frohnapfel, who also averaged 2.00 digs per set while contributing 51 kills and 22 service aces, has posted five career double-doubles. A two-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, she is an English major and will serve the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee chair during her senior year on College Hill.
"Sarah is very committed to our program," Campbell said of her setter. "She is an enthusiastic and spirited player who competes every day on the court, in the weight room and in the classroom."
Zoller was Lafayette's offensive leader in 2011 with 2.30 kills per set. She was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2011 Friar Classic in September, logging 2.83 kills with a .310 hitting percentage as the Leopards put together a 3-0 weekend to claim the tournament title. Zoller, an outside hitter, also averaged 1.81 digs per set with 13 service aces and 27 blocks in her junior season. A Mechanical Engineering major, Zoller earned a spot on the 2011 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
"Katie's career has been defined by her work ethic and competitive drive. She wants to win and will do everything in her power to help our program succeed," said Campbell.
Frohnapfel and Zoller will lead a squad of 12 returning Leopards and five newcomers in the fall. Lafayette won 10 matches last season - doubling its win total from the previous campaign. The Leopards also led the Patriot League with 12 student-athletes earning Academic Honor Roll status.
