ANNAPOLIS, Md. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette volleyball team's postseason hopes were put to rest on Friday night in Annapolis, as Navy claimed the final two games 30-27, 30-26 for a three-game Patriot League win that drops the Leopards to 5-8 in the conference.

Lafayette (15-13 overall) won five league matches for the first time in school history and entered the season's final weekend with a statistical chance to qualify for the Patriot League tournament. The Midshipmen (20-8, 7-6 PL) clinch no less than a tie for fourth in the league.

Freshman Michaela Donohue led Lafayette with 10 kills and eight digs, while Maura Kelly (five kills, 13 attacks) and senior Heidi Olichwier (six kills, one error, 13 attacks) both hit .385 for the match.

Sophomore Veronica Canto-Ponce was held under 10 kills for the first time in 22 matches and finished with six.

Navy outhit the Leopards .214 to .168 and the Midshipmen were credited with 14 aces.

Diane Sheldon and Ashley Van Hartesvelt were both in double figures with 14 and 13 kills, respectively. Ashley Musser had 39 assists.

Lafayette will close its season at American on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Eagles, who have won all three titles since entering the league, will enter with a 61-match win streak in conference play. The Leopards won the first game before falling in four at the Kirby Sports Center on Oct. 15.
