EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette volleyball team sent its seniors off in winning fashion on Saturday afternoon, sweeping visiting Bucknell in the final home match of the season. Kaitlynn Zoller had a team-high nine kills as the Leopards hit .258 in the 3-0 triumph. Lafayette won by set scores of 26-24, 25-14 and 30-28.

With the win, Lafayette moves to 9-16 overall and 2-10 in the Patriot League. The Bison fall to 6-15 on the season with a 3-9 League tally.

Zoller had nine kills on 20 swings, hitting .350. Danielle Towslee was also an efficient weapon with eight kills on 15 attempts for a .400 average. Camissa Beghou added seven kills, and a trio of Leopards - Sarah Frohnapfel, Alexandra Russo and Alana Taylor - posted four finishers apiece. Frohnapfel ran the Lafayette attack and distributed a match-best 25 assists.

Defensively, Christy Mebust led all players with 13 digs, while Michelle Woodworth added seven from the back row. At the net, Taylor and Towslee each had a hand in three of the Leopards six blocks.

Strong service continued to fuel the Leopards, who entered the weekend ranked sixth in Division I in aces per set. Lafayette landed 10 winners on Saturday, led by three from Michelle Weiss. Towslee and Mebust had two aces apiece.

The Bison got a match-high 11 kills from Kyleigh McAhren. Kat Tauscher dished out 19 assists for Bucknell, and Emily Sawanobori led the back row with nine digs.

Prior to the match, Lafayette recognized seniors Mebust, Taylor, Andrea Duvall, team manager Mary Cunning and student assistant Joel Hindelang.

 

 

The Leopards close out 2011 on the road next weekend. Lafayette travels to American on Friday and caps the campaign on Saturday afternoon at Navy.
