EASTON, Pa. – In a match that, before last night, was scheduled to be played at Grace Hall on the campus of Lehigh University, Lafayette fell to American in straight sets inside Kirby Sports Center Saturday afternoon. Power was restored at Kirby on Friday evening, allowing today’s match to be played on College Hill.

Senior co-captain Kaitlynn Zoller led the offensive attack for Lafayette, tallying nine kills. Freshman Brianne Giangiobbe added five putaways and sophomores Danielle Towslee and Katy Rooney, along with junior Karissa Ciliento, notched four kills apiece.

Zoller’s counterpart, senior co-captain Sarah Frohnapfel, ran the offense with 26 assists and sophomore Michelle Woodworth led the defense with 10 digs.

American was in control through all three sets, moving the ball with ease and finishing with authority. Sophomore Sara Rishell hit.524 with 13 kills on 21 attacks and just two errors. Junior setter Kylann Scheidt tallied 32 assists and eight digs to add to American’s winning formula.

Lafayette’s best set was the second as it was even with American 20 points in at 10 apiece. A Rishell kill, though, sparked a 15-6 run to end the set with a 25-16 score. The first was taken 25-15 and the third ended with a score of 25-13.

Lafayette hosts its final two matches of the season next weekend as it matches up with Army on Friday at 4 p.m. and Holy Cross on Senior Day, Saturday at 2 p.m.
