Washington, D.C. – American swept the Leopards, 3-0, in Patriot League action on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles improved to 24-2 and 10-1 in league play, while the Leopards moved to 10-14 overall.

The Leopards were led Karissa Ciliento’s 10 kills and Samantha Volk’s 25 assists. Brianne Giangiobbe had five kills, while Lauren Pisauro came up with nine digs. American was led by Allison Cappellino’s 14 kills and Megan Rosburg’s 10 digs.

American jumped on Lafayette in the opening frame, scoring seven of the first ten points. Ciliento and Kelly Flynn had a pair of kills in the set, but the Leopards fell, 25-12.

A pair of kills from Ciliento and Giangiobbe pulled the Leopards within a point at 10-9 and 11-10 in the second set, but Lafayette wasn’t able to get over the edge. American took the second game, 25-14.

The Leopards battled early in the third game courtesy of two Ciliento kills and a Jet Manzi ace, but American was able to take control and push its lead to 19-10. Lafayette made some more noised pulling within six thanks to kills from Giangiobbe, Manzi and Ciliento, but the Eagles were able to hold on to take the game, 25-18 and the match, 3-0.

The Maroon and White return to action next weekend at Bucknell.
