Lafayette Volleyball Falls to Navy 3-1
Oct. 25, 2003 EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) -Freshman Veronica Canto-Ponce (La Jolla, Calif.) recorded 13 kills, 12 digs and two service aces to lead the Leopards in a 3-1 (32-34, 30-24, 16-30, 20-30) loss to Navy on Saturday evening. Freshman Amanda Bodkin (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) continued her strong play for Lafayette, tallying 12 digs, six blocks and four kills. Fellow freshman Shannon Fisher (Coplay, Pa.) has also been consistently strong for the Leopards, providing an eight dig, six kill, and five block performance versus the Mids. Sophomore captain Catherine Herchenroder (Breezy Point, N.Y.) recorded 17 digs and two service aces for Lafayette. Navy was led by Ashley Van Hartsvelt and Beth McArthur with 13 kills each. McArthur also recorded 19 digs and five blocks for the Mids while Van Hartsvelt added 12 digs and two service aces. Lafayette falls to 5-18 overall, 0-9 in the Patriot League. Navy improves to 8-13, 4-5.
The Leopards will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 31 as they host Patriot League opponent Bucknell at 7 p.m. in Kirby Sports Center.
