EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette volleyball team fell in straight sets to Colgate, the top team in the Patriot League standings, Friday night in Hamilton, N.Y. With the win, the Raiders remain undefeated in conference play with an 8-0 mark.

Sophomore Danielle Towslee led the Leopard attack with seven kills, while freshman Brianne Giangiobbe added six.

Senior co-captain Sarah Frohnapfel notched 19 assists and freshman Lauren Pisauro tallied nine digs for the Lafayette defensive unit.

Colgate proved its prowess early in the first as it jumped out to a 12-3 lead after the first 15 points. A kill from sophomore Katy Rooney shifted momentum to allow the Leopards back into the set, pulling within four at 14-10. The Raiders quickly took that momentum back, though, and they finished off the first, 25-17 on a kill from Lindsay Young.

In the second, Colgate again got out to the early lead, but a block from Giangiobbe and Rooney pulled Lafayette to within four again at 19-15. However, two kills from Colgate’s Katie Fauntleroy finished off the second, 25-17, to take the 2-0 set lead.

Lafayette seemed to get a handle on its game in the third, even with Colgate at 13 apiece midway through the set. A Young kill sparked a 4-0 run for the Raiders from that point, and Colgate went on to take the third and the match, 25-20.

The Leopards make the trip to Lewisburg, Pa. to take on Bucknell tomorrow at 5 p.m.
