Easton, Pa. – Lafayette fell to rival Lehigh in a five-set thriller on Friday night inside Kirby Sports Center on Dig Pink night. The Mountain Hawks moved to 6-3 in Patriot League play, while the Leopards dropped to 1-7 in the league.

Lehigh ran out to a 4-1 start in the first set, before kills from Katy Rooney and Brianne Giangiobbe cut the Mountain Hawk lead to 5-3. An 8-5 run from the Leopards gave Lafayette its first lead of the opening set, 11-10. In set two, the Leopards opened up a 7-2 lead on two kills by Giangiobbe and a kill from Rooney. With Melanie Weiss serving, the Maroon and White rattled off seven straight points to break open the set, 14-3. The Leopards coasted the rest of the way as Karissa Ciliento closed out the set with a kill and an ace.

The Maroon and White picked up where they left off at the end of set two to start the third set. The Leopards opened up an 8-3 lead powered by a pair of Giangiobbe kills. A pair of aces from Ciliento made it 11-4 and forced Lehigh to use a timeout. The Mountain Hawks climbed back into the game, pulling within one, 16-15, forcing a Lafayette timeout.

Out of the timeout, the Mountain Hawks took their first lead of set three, 17-16. Trailing by a point, Weiss entered the game and the Leopards won the next three points with her serving. Ciliento closed out the set again with a pair of kills and a service ace.
