EASTON, Pa.- In front of a packed house on “Dig Pink” night at the Kirby Sports Center, the Lafayette volleyball team fell to archrival Lehigh on Thursday evening, 3-0.

After a tough first set that saw the Leopards take an early 17-13 lead, Lehigh rallied to finish the first, 25-21, and roll through the second and third sets by 25-14 and 25-20 margins.

Sophomore Danielle Towslee led the offense with eight kills, while freshman Brianne Giangiobbe added five winners. Senior co-captain Sarah Frohnapfel controlled the Lafayette attack with 25 assists.

Freshman Lauren Pisauro came up with 16 digs for the Leopard defense and senior co-captain Kaitlynn Zoller added two blocks at the net.

With the crowd roaring in the first set, Lafayette stormed out to a 17-13 lead thanks to a Pisauro service ace and a Towslee kill. However, a rare service error from junior Karissa Ciliento sparked a Lehigh rally that ended up in a 25-21 first-set defeat.

Unfortunately for Lafayette, Lehigh carried over that momentum into the second set, jumping out to an 8-1 lead before a timeout from Leopard head coach Terri Dadio Campbell. The timeout lit a fire under Lafayette as they went on a quick 4-1 run, moving within four at 9-5. Lehigh took the momentum back, though, and grabbed the 2-0 set lead, 25-14.

Falling down 18-10 to start the third set, the Leopards dug deep and pulled to within three at 20-17 on an attack error from Lehigh’s Paige Kruse. Lehigh was able to pull out the third, though, and take the match, 25-20.

Next up for the Maroon and White is a trip to Holy Cross on Friday at 7 p.m.
