Leopards Drop Patriot League Match at Bucknell
LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Lafayette women’s volleyball team fell to Bucknell in straight sets (25-17, 25-19, 25-18) in Patriot League action Friday evening.
The opening set saw the Leopards hold a slim lead during the early goings as a Tori Smith kill brought the score to 11-8. The Bison grew into the set however, opening up an 8-0 run to take a 20-13 lead. Bucknell saw out the set and won by a score of 25-17.
Lafayette came out strong again in the second set as the Leopards used a 6-0 run to build a 7-3 lead behind service from Lexie Caraveo. The Bison battled back, as the two teams traded blows for the remainder of the set. Two late kills from Christian Luhnow brought the score to 24-19, but Bucknell took the next point and the set, 25-19.
The early goings of the third set were evenly matched between the two squads with neither able to open a large lead. After Carly Kutschke put away a kill, the Bison were able to swing the set back into their favor, using a 5-0 run to bring the score to 16-9. Bucknell held its lead from there, winning the set 25-18, and the match 3-0.
Kutschke led the Leopards with 12 kills and a team-high .364 hitting percentage. Julia Howard recorded a match-high 25 assists, while Caraveo led the team with 11 digs.
The Maroon and White continue the action tomorrow in a road tilt with rival Lehigh. The contest is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
