ANNAPOLIS, Md.- The Lafayette volleyball team lost a heartbreaker on Saturday afternoon, falling in five sets to Navy.

Junior Karissa Ciliento and sophomore Katy Rooney led the Leopard offense with 12 and 11 kills, respectively.

Senior co-captain Sarah Frohnapfel recorded 39 assists, while freshman Lauren Pisauro tallied 17 digs to top the defensive unit.

Lafayette came out in the first looking to avenge a straight-set loss to American yesterday. With no attack errors the entire set, the Leopards decidedly took the 1-0 set lead, 25-12.

Navy regrouped in the second, holding a 19-16 lead late. Lafayette’s mindset of one point at a time paid off though, as it dug in and came back to tie the score at 20. Lafayette’s determination was without waiver as they took the second, 25-22.

In the fourth, Navy jumped out to a 20-15 lead before a Lafayette timeout. This time, though, Navy took five of the last seven points to take the third, 25-17.

Navy took that momentum into the fourth, starting on a 9-2 run, and pushing its lead to 12-5 before a Leopard timeout. Navy had the lead late at 21-16, but Lafayette would not be denied as it clawed back to within two at 23-21. Navy took two the last three, though, to take the fourth, 25-22.

It was all Mids in the fifth as they jumped out to an early 11-5 lead in the first-to-15 format. Navy finished off the Leopards 15-6 for the five-set victory.

The Leopards return home on Thursday to take on archrival Lehigh at Kirby Sports Center at 7:30 p.m.
