Easton, Pa. – The Lafayette volleyball team drop a 3-1 decision to Loyola Maryland on Saturday afternoon, 25-17, 20-25, 25-18 and 25-15. The Leopards fell to 8-6, 0-4 in the Patriot League, while Loyola improved to 4-10, 1-1 in League play.

The two squads battled back and forth through the first 16 points of the first set. Loyola’s Samantha Reeves served back-to-back aces to push the Greyhounds lead to two, 10-8. With Loyola ahead, 11-9, Kara Schiffer hit a pair of aces to increase its lead to 13-9. Kills from Karissa Ciliento and Katy Rooney later in the set cut the Greyhound lead to 21-16, but Loyola took four of the next five points to take game one.

A block from Jet Manzi and Kelly Flynn and kills from Manzi and Giangiobbe gave Lafayette an early 5-2 lead in set two. Trailing 11-10, Ciliento tied the score with a kill. A kill and block from Giangiobbe increased the Leopards lead to 16-14. Back-to-back kills by Manzi and Rooney pushed the advantage to 20-15. Giangiobbe and Ciliento each tallied kills to close out set two, 25-20.

The Leopards took an early 3-1 lead on a pair of aces from Samantha Volk and Ciliento. Kills from Loyola’s Faye Lucas and Lauren Andersen gave the Greyhounds the lead, 11-8. Lafayette tried to climb back into the set on kills by Giangiobbe and Rooney, but the Greyhounds closed out the third set, 25-20.

The third set saw the Leopards tied the game at 6-6 on two kills from Ciliento. Ciliento was at it again, as two more kills knotted the set at eight. Loyola pushed its lead to, 12-9, before a Giangiobbe kill pulled the Leopards to within a point, 13-12. That was as close as Lafayette would get in set four, as the Greyhounds took 12 of the next 15 points to win the set, 25-15, and the match, 3-1.

Lafayette was led by Ciliento’s seven kills, followed by Giangiobbe with 12. Rooney chipped in with eight kills, while Volk handed out 34 assists. Lauren Pisauro led the way with 17 digs and an ace. Loyola was led by Faye Lukas, who had a match-high 18 kills, and Andersen, who had 48 assists.

The Leopards travel to Newark, N.J. on October 4, to play NJIT, followed by a home match on October 6, against Bucknell at 2 p.m.
