WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Lafayette volleyball team had its hands full with the American Eagles Friday evening, as it fell in straight sets, 25-9, 25-12, and 25-16.

Freshman Brianne Giangiobbe led the Leopard attack for the first time in her young career with six kills. Sophomore Danielle Towslee and senior co-captain Kaitlynn Zoller each added five for the Lafayette offense.

Senior co-captain Sarah Frohnapfel controlled the offensive sets with 20 assists, while freshman Lauren Pisauro led the defense with 14 digs. Sophomore Katy Rooney recorded three blocks at the net.

American took control from the get-go, using a 22-5 run to open the match to take the opening set, 25-9. The Leopards hung tough for the first half of the second set, working to within five at 15-10. However, the Eagles ripped off 10 of the next 12 points to take a 2-0 set lead, 25-12.

Lafayette would not go down easy, as they were within two at 11-9, 20 points into the third. However, American mythodically moved through the rest of the set, finishing off the Leopards in three straight, 25-16.

Next up for the Leopards is a trip to Navy tomorrow at noon.
