BRONX, N.Y.- The Lafayette volleyball team dropped just its second match of the season on Tuesday evening as they fell to the Rams of Fordham, 3-1. Senior co-captain Sarah Frohnapfel notched a double-double in defeat with 34 assists and 11 digs.

Lafayette was initially strong, taking the first set 25-18. After that though, the Leopards never seemed to get back on track dropping three straight sets, 25-14, 25-23 and 25-16.

The Leopard attack was led by junior Karissa Ciliento and sophomore Katy Rooney, each with nine kills offensively. Sophomore Danielle Towslee chipped in with five blocks, while classmate Michelle Woodworth dug up 13 balls to lead the Lafayette defense.

A Ciliento kill, followed by a Ram setting error, allowed the Leopards to take a 20-12 lead toward the end of the first set as they showed they came to play after the long ride to New York. After sliding a bit, allowing Fordham to creep back to a 24-18 mark, Towslee and senior Kaitlynn Zoller teamed up for a set-ending block to take the first, 25-18.

The second set was the polar opposite of the first as this time, Fordham jumped out to the 20-12 lead. Stifling any sign of a Leopard comeback, the Rams closed out the second, 25-14.

In the third, the Leopards fought back from a late 20-15 deficit to within one at 24-23, forcing a Fordham timeout. Out of the break though, the Rams' Brennan Delsing let loose a kill past the Lafayette defense to end the set, 25-23.

Jumping out to a quick 6-4 lead, thanks to kills by Rooney, Towslee and freshman Brianne Giangiobbe gave the impression that Lafayette was ready for the long haul. However, five straight Ram points after the score was tied at 10-10 opened up the window for Fordham to manage a 25-16 closing-set victory.

The Maroon and White will take on Coppin State and St. Francis (N.Y.) in a tri-match in Easton on Saturday, playing the Eagles of Coppin State at 10 a.m. and the Terriers of St. Francis (N.Y.) at 3 p.m.
