Lafayette Women In Second Place After First Day of Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championships

LEWISBURG, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette seniors Jackie Bingham and Rian Landers each picked up individual victories to carry the Leopard women into second place after day one of the Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Bucknell.

Landers crossed the tape ahead of the field in the grueling 10,000M in 36:56.25.

Bingham notched a gold in the javelin with a toss of 140'7", and the senior added a fourth place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 154'1".

Three other Leopards also had success in the javelin and hammer. Freshman Taren Weidaw and junior Jerri Pelletier scored valuable team points with a fourth and fifth place finish in the javelin, respectively. Weidaw threw 131'3" and Pelletier's mark was 127'3". Sophomore Larissa Bellamy notched a sixth place finish in the hammer after a toss of 152'0".

Senior Kim Miller and freshman Daria Szkwarko scored for Lafayette in the pole vault. Miller cleared 10'10" to finish in third place, and Szkwarko placed sixth after clearing 10'4".

In the 100M hurdle trials, Jennifer White placed third in heat no. 2 and seventh overall in a time of 15.09.

Navy leads after day one of the Patriot League Championships with 55 points. The Leopards stand in second with 39 points and lead Bucknell and Lehigh by 15 points.

The Patriot League Championships conclude tomorrow at Bucknell.
