The 27-year head coach of Lafayette track and field and cross country will retire at the end of the year

Michele Curcio is in her third season coaching Lafayette's throwers, multi-event performers and pole vaulters. In 1999-2000, Curcio oversaw a provisional NCAA qualifier and four Patriot League champions. Curcio was an assistant coach at Slippery Rock University for three years. While there, she coached one All-American thrower, six conference champions and aided in the development of two All-American decathletes. Prior to that, Curcio was an assistant coach at East Stroudsburg University for four years where she earned her master?s degree in physical education. Curcio graduated from the University of Delaware in 1991, following a four-year track and field career. She was the East Coast Conference champion in the 20-pound weight and the hammer throw in her senior year. Upon graduation, Curcio continued her career in the hammer, competing on a national level and eventually qualifying for the 1992 Olympic trials. Curcio resides in Nazareth, Pa.
