Women's Tennis Continues Academic Excellence

EASTON, Pa. - Junior Sarah Sykes (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove), who is a repeat honoree and freshman Kristie Cavanagh (New Providence, N.J./New Providence) were two of three Patriot League women's tennis players to earn a 4.0 grade-point average (GPA) in the spring semester. Jacqui Bonder (Collegeville, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy) was also honored.

All three of the Lafayette's representatives were contributors to a 7-10 squad in the 2007 season.

Sykes, a Biochemistry major and a 2007 ITA Scholar-Athlete, had a 6-11 singles record. A pair of victories came against St. Francis (N.Y.) in Lafayette's season sweep of the Terriers. She recorded two road victories at St. Peter's and Coppin State at No. 1 singles.

Cavanagh was 4-7 in singles action and posted her first collegiate victory at No. 4 singles against St. Francis (N.Y.). She also recorded back-to-back victories on the road at No. 5 with wins at Coppin State and at La Salle. In doubles, Cavanagh was 2-7 with wins at La Salle and against Wagner in third doubles.

Bonder, a 2008 graduate with dual degrees in Government & Law/Economics & Business, made the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll for the second time with a 3.75 GPA. She will be staying with the women's tennis team during the 2008 season as an assistant coach.

Bonder had a 4-11 singles record and 3-11 doubles record in her senior season. She posted consecutive wins in a season sweep against St. Francis (N.Y.) and had a three-set victory at Coppin State.
