Bailey Punctuates Career With Second Team All-Patriot League Honors

May 7, 2007

EASTON, Pa. - Head tennis coach Eric Ratchford cannot say enough about the improvement of senior Danielle Bailey's (Kalispell, Mont./Flathead) play since she arrive on College Hill four years ago. That fact has resulted in the captain's placement on the Second Team All-Patriot League, the conference office announced Monday morning.

"Danielle raised the level of her game significantly as a senior," Ratchford said. "She was able to move up in our line up and play at No. 1 and No. 2 for us all spring and just had a tremendous year."

Lafayette's lone senior played all but two matches in the top singles flight this spring championship season for the Leopards. She was 8-7 overall in singles competition and went 6-7, playing primarily with sophomore Ansley Scudder, in the top doubles flight. Bailey was a key component in the Leopards securing the fourth seed in the Patriot League Tournament on April 28-29. Lafayette fell to host Lehigh in the quarterfinal round.

Bailey notched Patriot League wins over Holy Cross' Ivette Konopka and added two more during the Leopards' Spring Break trip through Maryland, Florida and the Carolinas in March.

The double major in Government and Law and Psychology is a three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member and started her freshman year as a walk-on, playing primarily at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.

Bailey becomes the third straight Leopard in the last five years to earn second team honors, following Chez Saricas '06 (2003, 04, 06) and Lisa Fung-Kee-Fung '06 (2005).
