Women's Tennis Tops Red Flash To Close Out Fall Season
Oct. 15, 2006
EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette got plenty of help from the bottom of its lineup en route to a 5-2 win over St. Francis (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon at Sullivan Courts. While the Leopards struggled at the top of the lineup, the bottom picked up the slack to secure the Leopards' second straight win.
Lafayette won the doubles point, as sophomores Ansley Scudder and Sarah Sykes teamed to take an 8-3 win in the second flight and senior Danielle Bailey and freshman Elena Apostolides won in the No. 3 spot, 8-0.
Sykes, Bailey, Apostolides and sophomore Nancy Parker accounted for Lafayette's four points in singles action. Sykes downed the Terriers' Samantha Fulchiero, 6-3, 6-1, in No. 3 singles, while Bailey won 6-1, 6-1 over Eva Keresztes in the fourth slot. Parker and Apostolides were victors at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
The win wraps-up the fall season for the 3-1 Leopards. Lafayette opens the spring season on March 11 at UMES.
