Women's Tennis Competes at St. Joseph's Fall Invitational

PHILADELPHIA –The Lafayette women’s tennis team competed in the St. Joseph’s Fall Invitational this past weekend at Maguire Courts and Finnesey Courts. Jordyn Spellberg and Caroline Nixon competed in both the singles and doubles flights for the Leopards. Amanda Kusnierz, Lucy Bass, Catherine Senopoulos, and Ally Simels were in action on the doubles side. Julia Kripas competed on the singles side.
Senopoulous/Simels defeated the Villanova duo of Yalda Hajavi and Hayley Sanzone 8-5 in the flight 2 consolation.
Sophomore Spellberg faced Marcela Rosales of Drexel in the first round. Spellberg dropped the first set 6-2 and the second set 6-4. Freshman Caroline Nixon also fell in the first round to Pittsburgh’s Molly Wickman.
Julia Kripas won the flight 4 singles consolation, defeating Laura Husband of St. Francis 6-2,6-3.
Spellberg was back in action in the doubles flight with partner Lucy Bass. The pair fell to Pitt’s Kimmy Borza and Gabrielle Catanzariti in straight sets.
Kusnierz and Nixon faced Kristina Eisenbrand and Casey Robinson of St. Joseph’s in the doubles flight. The pair of Leopards lost 8-3 to the eventual second place finishers.
Lafayette will compete next at the Lehigh Invitational in Bethlehem on Oct. 27.
