Colgate Takes Match from Women's Tennis

Easton, Pa. - The Lafayette women's tennis team dropped a Patriot League match to Colgate on Monday by a 4-3 final.

Caroline Nixon got the Leopards off on a positive note, taking the number one singles match over Kelsey Shea 6-4, 7-5. Catherine Senopoulos bested Kaelin Brittin 6-3, 6-0 at fourth singles, and Tori Almeida ousted Katie Grant 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles. Colgate won the number two, three, and sixth singles contests to split the singles competition. Jen Ho downed Rocine Moschella 6-3, 6-4, while Alex Petrini bested Jordyn Spellberg in straight sets at third singles. At No. 6, Amanda Kusnierz fell 6-3, 7-5 to Colgate's Kirstie Woodbury.

The Leopards took the first doubles match 8-7 (2) courtesy of Nixon and Senopoulos beating Shea and Petrini. The Raiders claimed the decisive second and third doubles matches to come away with the team victory. Ho and Brittin defeated Moschella and Almeida 8-5 at No. 2, while Grant and Woodbury took down Kusnierz and Lauren Tracy 8-3.

The Leopards finish the regular season with a 5-7 overall record and a 1-6 mark in conference play. As the No. 8 seed, Lafayette opens the Patriot League Tournament First Round against No. 9 Holy Cross on Thursday in Lewisburg, Pa. The winner of that competition will play No. 1 Boston University on Friday.
