Leopards Split Spring Break Trip

EASTON, Pa. – The Leopards women’s tennis took its annual spring break trip this past week with a trip to the Carolinas to taking on Belmont Abbey and Francis Marion. The Leopards defeated Belmont Abbey, 8-1, but fell to Francis Marion, 9-0.

Against Belmont Abbey, freshman Caroline Nixon won a hard fought match at first singles, 7-5, 6-7(5), (10-7). Junior Lucy Bass and freshman Catherine Senopoulos blanked their opponents at third and fourth singles, 6-0, 6-0, while junior Liza Blank and freshman Ally Simels each won, 6-1, 6-0

In doubles Nixon and sophomore Jordyn Spellberg earned an 8-6 decision at first doubles, while Bass and Blank were victorious, 8-3. In third doubles, Senopoulos and Simels had little trouble winning, 8-2.

In the match against Francis Marion, Nixon was defeated at first singles, 6-0, 6-1. Spellberg dropped her second singles match, 6-2, 6-0. Bass and Blank lost at third and fifth singles, while Senopoulos and Simels were knocked off at fourth and sixth singles.

Nixon and Spellberg fell, 8-0, in their first doubles match. Bass and Blank teamed up at second doubles, but were defeated, 8-0, while Senopoulos and Simels dropped their third singles match, 8-2.

Lafayette will visit Rider on April 3 at 3 p.m.
