Lafayette Swimming and Diving Teams Receive Patriot League Sportsmanship Award

Oct. 3, 2002

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette head swimming and diving coach Jim Dailey and his teams were honored with the Patriot League Sportsmanship Award on Thursday.

The Leopards have opened their doors and provided a training facility for the Lehigh University divers since the Lehigh program's pool is under renovation. The Lehigh swimmers are using the university's auxiliary pool, but the Lehigh divers have been practicing with the Leopards on College Hill since mid-September.

"It's a good opportunity for our divers to dive amongst a group," Dailey said. "This breaks the monotony of training by themselves which gets tiring. It challenges them to be better."

This is the second time Lafayette has been honored with the Sportsmanship Award from the Patriot League. Head tennis coach Barbara Young and her teams received the award in June 2002.

Lafayette's swimming and diving teams open their season on Oct. 18 at the American Relays.

Lafayette Athletics, as a partner in the mission of the College, provides an incredibly effective learning experience for student-athletes through competitive NCAA Division I athletics. Lafayette sponsors 23 varsity sports with more than 600 student-athletes.
