Hamilton, N.Y. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette Women's Swimming and Diving team began competition in Hamilton, N.Y., yesterday to kick off the Patriot League Championships. In the first of a three-day event, the completion of 12 events left several Leopards in top placements in their respective competitions.

Freshman diver Alana Anzalone (Shavertown, Pa./Wyoming Seminary), who has been one of the most consistent performers for the Leopards this year, placed fourth in the semi-finals of the three-meter event. Junior teammate Claire Kesicke (North Salem, N.Y./John Jay) also performed well in the semi-finals by placing 13th in a field of 23 divers, but failed to qualify for the finals. Anzalone then capped off the season with a fifth place finish in the finals with a score of 332.20.

Several other Leopards placed well in their events including the 200 free relay team that includes freshmen Liz Tutschek (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes), Erin Malone (Oreland, Pa./Springfield Township), sophomore Brenda Thayer (Wilmington Academy/Archmere Academy), and junior Leah Gruenke (Wescosville, Pa./Emmaus). The relay team finished in seventh place with a time of 1:46.69.

A trio of teammates placed within one second of each other in the 200 IM including Thayer who led the pack with a time of 2:13.43. Teammates Erika Hoke (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM) and Carrie Abildgaard (North Haven, CT/North Haven) finished next in line with times of 2:13.63 and 2:13.79, respectively.
