HAMILTON, N.Y. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette's men's and women's swimming and diving teams were swept by Colgate in a Patriot League meet Wednesday afternoon at Lineberry Natatorium. The men's team (1-5, 0-3 Patriot League) lost 139-104, while the women's squad (4-2, 1-2 Patriot League) dropped a 128-113 decision.
Sophomore Steven Berkowitz (Scotch Plains,N.J./Scotch Plains Fanwood) led the men's team with a first place finish in the 200-yd fly (1:58.82), and second place nods in the 200-yd IM (2:00.32) and the 200-yd breaststroke (2:19.31).
Freshman Jakub Pritz (Holmes, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) continues to be a strong swimmer in his rookie season, claiming the top spot in the 100-yd free (48.73) while taking second in the 200-yd free (1:48.13) event.
Sophomore Janis Eisl (Philadelphia, Pa./Friends Central) captured first place in the 200-yd free (1:48.07) followed by Pritz and freshman Stephen Connlain (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) for a Leopard sweep in the event.
The men's relay team of Connlain, Lucas Kimmel (Chestertown, Md./Queen Annes County), Eisl and Pritz swam to a first place finish followed by teammates Dan Sherry (Radnor, Pa./Radnor), John Veltri (Lawrence, N.J./Lawrence), James Hertan (Mountainside, N.J./Oratory Prep) and David Watts (Endicott, N.Y./Union Endicott) for a one-two Lafayette showing in the 400-yd relay event.
On the women's side, senior Katie Duffy (Rumson, N.J./Rumson Fair Haven) and freshman Erin Rosensteel (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) dominated 50- and 100-yd freestyle events. Duffy took first in the 50-yd free (25.53) followed by Rosensteel in second place (25.60). Rosensteel captured first in the 100-yd free (55.01) followed by Duffy in third place with a time of 56.31.
Freshman Jenny Moerschbacher (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) led the Leopards to a sweep in the 200-yd free with a time of 1:59.91 followed by Maura Dailey (Oreland, Pa./Springfield Township) in second (2:01.23) and Jessica Howell O'Neill (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) in third (2:01.49). Moerschbacher also went on to take third place in the 200-yd backstroke (2:16.72) behind a second-place finish by teammate Alison Scudder (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) who finished with a time of 2:15.22).
Sophomore diver Alana Anzalone (Shavertown, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) turned in a second and third place finish in the diving events with 223.80 points in the one-meter and 224.48 points in the three-meter event.
Lafayette returns to action as it hosts Delaware on Saturday, Jan. 19 at Kirby Sports Center's Ruef Natatorium starting at 1 p.m.
