Lafayette Men's Swimming Team Defeats Colgate to Even Patriot League Mark

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Jakub Pritz and Greg Van Volkenburg each swam to two first-place finishes as Lafayette defeated Colgate, 144-97 at Ruef Natatorium on Wednesday. Pritz claimed the 50 free and 100 free, while Van Volkenburg dominated the 1000 free and 200 back.

Kris Klein, Chris Grabowski and Steve Berkowitz swept the 200 IM for the Leopards (3-3, 1-1), with Grabowski (500 free) and Berkowitz (200 fly) each swimming to a first-place finish of their own. Pritz, John Veltri and Tom Sheehan added a clean sweep of the 50 free, and Janis Eisl took home a first-place finish in the 200 free.

In the diving competition, Justin Gaudreau won the 3-meter diving by a slim six-point margin and finished second in the 1-meter event.

On the women's side, Lafayette lost to Colgate, 139-100. Jenny Moerschbacher paced the Leopards with first-place swims in the 200 and 500 free. Moerschbacher, Brenda Thayer and Lindsay McCarthy went 1-2-3 for the Leopards (2-5, 0-2) in the 500 free.

Nancy Haystrand and Daniele Menard earned the top two places in the 200 fly with Jen Totten taking home first-place in the 200 breast.

Lafayette travels to Binghamton on Jan. 29, with the women's meet scheduled to start at 4 p.m. followed by the men's competition at 5 p.m.
