LEWISBURG, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette men's and women's swimming and diving team dropped a dual meet to Patriot League foe Bucknell on Saturday in Lewisburg, Pa. The men's team dropped a 166.5-116.5 decision while the women lost their first meet of the season, 182-113 to Bucknell.

On the men's side, freshman Jakub Pritz (Holmes, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) led the Leopards with top finishes in the 200-yard (1:48.19) and 50-yard (21.92) freestyle events. Pritz tied Bucknell's Peter Garvin for first place in the 100-yard free event with a time of 47.94.

Sophomore Steven Berkowitz (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains Fanwood) performed well for Lafayette, placing first in both the 100-yard (54.17) and 200-yard (1:57.72) fly events. Freshman Stephen Connlain (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) finished less than a second behind Berkowitz in the 100-yard fly with a time of 54.91.

Junior diver Justin Gaudreau (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield) contributed points for Lafayette by placing first in the three-meter (211.10) and second in the one-meter (195.00) events.

Other top finishers included freshman Cliff Haldeman (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) who took second place in the 200-yard IM (2:12.62).

On the women's side, sophomore Alana Anzalone (Shavertown, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) and freshman Cristin MacDonald (Glendora, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) dominated the top spots in the one- and three-meter competitions. Anzalone captured both events with scores of 208.9 in the three-meter and 210.82 in the one-meter event. MacDonald placed second in the three-meter (203.80) and third in the one-meter (168.82).

Junior co-captain Brenda Thayer (Wilmington, Del./Archmere Academy) took the Leopards' lone first place finish in the swimming events with a top spot in the 200-yard IM (2:16.95). The 200-yard IM event was a sweep by the Leopards with Erika Hoke (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM) taking second (2:21.74) and Ellen Rogers (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) taking third (2:22.93).

Freshman Jenny Moerschbacher (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) swam to a second place finish in the 200-yard free event (1:59.35) and a third place spot in the 200-yard backstroke (2:16.34).

Junior co-captain Nancy Haystrand (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) took second in the 200-yard fly with a time of 2:12.61 while classmate Alison Scudder (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) took third in the 100-yard back (1:03.66). Freshman Erin Rosensteel (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) also swam to a second place finish in the 100-yard free event with a time of 56.10.

The women's team dropped to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the Patriot League while the men fell to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in league action.

Lafayette returns to action on Jan. 16 when it travels to Colgate for a 1 p.m. meet with the Raiders.
