Wallin Named Lafayette Head Softball Coach
July 7, 2009
EASTON, Pa. - Jaime Wallin has been named the new head coach of the Lafayette softball team. Wallin joins the Leopards following a four year stint as the head softball coach at Sonoma State University (Calif.). "I feel very fortunate to receive the opportunity to serve as head softball coach at Lafayette College," Wallin said. "The campus community and athletic department are very welcoming and supportive. The softball program made great strides in the last four years and I look forward to playing a role in its continual growth." This past spring, Wallin guided Sonoma State to its first winning season in nine years. Under Wallin, the Seawolves made two trips to the NCAA Division II postseason (2007, 2009) and recorded their first three postseason victories in program history. Wallin coached one California Collegiate Athletic Association Pitcher of the Year as well as one Newcomer of the Year and five all-region players. She picked up her 100th career victory in April 2009. "We are excited to have Jaime join the Lafayette community as our new head softball coach," Lafayette athletic director Bruce McCutcheon said. "She brings outstanding leadership, coaching skills and a shared sense of the core values that we promote at Lafayette. We look forward to a long and successful association with her." Prior to her tenure at Sonoma State, Wallin was the assistant softball coach at Stony Brook (SUNY) for two years and was named the Stony Brook Female Assistant Coach of the Year in 2004. Wallin began her coaching career as a student assistant coach at Queens College from 1999-2000 before spending three years as an assistant coach at the University of California-Davis (2000-03). Wallin played collegiate softball at Pace University and Queens College. She was a 1997 all-conference selection at Pace and was a two-time all-conference player at second and third base while at Queens. The Knights captured the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference championship during Wallin's senior campaign.
She graduated from Queens in 1999 with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in Exercise Science and Psychology. Wallin went on to earn her Master's Degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sport Performance from California State University in 2003. The Leopards are coming off a season in which they made their second consecutive appearance in the Patriot League championship series. Rising senior Christina Giambrone was named the Patriot League's Softball Player of the Year, becoming just the second player in program history to earn the honor. |
