Easton, Pa. - The Lafayette softball program has announced five players will join as members of the Class of 2013. Madeline Allen (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) was a four-year varsity starter and all-area player as a catcher at Monroe-Woodbury. She boasted a .410 batting average her senior year and was voted MVP as a junior. She led her travel team, the N.Y. Clash, with a .358 batting average in 2007 while her 2007 North Jersey Rocks travel squad captured the ASA New Jersey State Championship. Allen also lettered in basketball and volleyball at Monroe-Woodbury and was honored as a New York State Scholar all four years. She was a member of the National Honor Society and served as a freshman mentor. She is expected to play first base and/or catcher at Lafayette. Emily Noel (Los Angeles, Calif./Palisades Charter) is the first of two California players joining the team. Noel, who is projected to play first base and pitch for the Leopards, was a three-time team MVP. She recorded 150 strikeouts her senior season and hit for a .500 average as a first baseman. Noel, a captain in 2009, was a three-time member of the Western League A Team and earned a spot on the B team as a freshman. Noel played travel ball with Nemesis 18U Gold. A two-sport athlete at Palisades Charter, Noel played on the basketball squad and served as team captain as a senior. She also received her school's President's Award all eight semesters and was a Seal Bearer for Academic Achievement. The lone New Jersey player joining the team is Liz Huttner (Princeton Junction, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional). Huttner was a four-year varsity starter in high school, including her final three seasons as the starting shortstop, and finished her career with 100-plus hits. She was as two-year captain and two-time MVP who helped lead her 2009 squad to the Mercer County title for the first time in program history. She hit .625 as a senior en route to earning First-Team All-State honors from the Star Ledger.
Huttner also played soccer and basketball at West Windsor-Plainsboro. She was the starting goalkeeper for three seasons and was named the basketball team's MVP as a senior. Academically, Huttner was a member of the Math and Spanish National Honor Societies. Jordan Parsons (Escondido, Calif./Mission Hills) is the second California player joining the team. The outfielder was a four-year varsity starter at Mission Hills who served as captain her senior year during which she led the team with a .446 slugging percentage. She was named team MVP during her final season and was an all-second team selection. As a junior, she was an all-first team selection after leading Mission Hills in hitting. Parsons won the Union Tribune Student-Athlete Award as a junior and senior, graduated with honors from Mission Hills and was the recipient of the College Board AP Scholar Award. Her travel softball squad will participate in the 18 Gold Nationals this summer in Oklahoma City. Finally, Breanne Young (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Senior High School) will join the Leopards as a pitcher. Young played at Northampton Senior High School where she was also a member of the swimming team. Young also participated in orchestra and band, as well. The 2009 Leopards finished with 17 victories and made their second-straight appearance in the Patriot League championship series. |
