Academic All-Patriot League Honors Come Wensel’s Way
EASTON, Pa. – For the second straight day, Patriot League honors have come Brooke Wensel’s way. Wensel was named the Patriot League’s Defensive Player of the Year on Tuesday and secured a spot on the Academic All-Patriot League squad announced on Wednesday.
Wensel (Bechtelsville, Pa./Berks Catholic), who maintains a 3.53 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in Psychology, was one of 11 student-athletes selected to the list and one of just two sophomores.
An All-Patriot League Second-Team selection in 2016, Wensel was at the heart of the Leopard defense in 2017, turning eight double plays while committing only two errors in Patriot League play. She helped the Leopards set a school record for fielding percentage in 2017 (.970).
In the batter’s box, Wensel hit for a .236 average in 2017, leading the team with three home runs while starting every game at shortstop. For her career, she has started 86 games and holds a .285 career batting average, including a rooking season in which she was the team’s rookie of the year while hitting at a .324 clip.
