Lafayette renews its rivalry with Lehigh with a pair of doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday with games starting at noon each day. The Leopards enter the weekend 7-18 overall and 1-3 in the Patriot League.
The Mountain Hawks come into the weekend holding a 15-12-1 record and a 3-1 mark in the Patriot League. Lehigh won three out of four at Bucknell in its Patriot League opening series. Freshman Alexis Watanabe leads the Mountain Hawks with 33 hits and a .388 batting average. The rookie also leads team in runs scored (27) and triples (5). Senior Liz Lucas and freshman Morgan Decker are tied for the team lead with 22 RBI. Decker has hit a team-high three home runs.
The Leopards’ junior Melissa Robinson (5-11), an All-Patriot League Second-Team selection last season, will pitch this weekend for the Leopards. The Philadelphia native has a 4.06 ERA with 57 strikeouts. Freshman Bryn Gornick (2-4) has started six games and carries a 6.40 ERA with 20 strikeouts, while classmate Kaitlin Perrine has made seven appearances.
Lehigh senior Rebecca Bliss and sophomore Emily Bausher have split a majority of the time in the pitcher’s circle this season. Bliss is 8-6 with a 2.07 ERA and 38 strikeouts, while Bausher is 6-4 with a 2.09 ERA and 76 strikeouts. Junior Ashley Quigley has made three starts, going 1-2 with a 3.17 ERA and 15 strikeouts.
Saturday afternoon in Bethlehem will be mostly sunny with a high in the mid fifties, while Sunday will be partly cloudy with highs in the mid sixties.
Freshman shortstop Brittany Paul leads the Leopards with 20 hits and a .303 batting average. The Syracuse, N.Y. native was an honorable mention in the Patriot League Player of the Week voting this past week. Paul was 8-for-19 (.421) during the week and scored five runs.
Patriot League Update
Patriot League play began last weekend with Lafayette dropping three out of four to visiting Holy Cross. Lehigh took three out of four from Bucknell, while Army and Colgate split a four-game series. This weekend Bucknell visits Colgate, and Army travels to Holy Cross.
The Leopards will travel to Newark, Del. on Tuesday to take on Delaware, followed by a trip to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on Wednesday to face Marist.
