BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Fourth-seeded Lafayette opened the 2012 Patriot League Softball Tournament with a 2-0 loss at No. 1 seed Lehigh on Thursday afternoon. The Leopards will next play on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Lehigh's Kaufman Field, facing No. 3 Colgate which lost 4-3 to No. 2 seed Army late Thursday afternoon.

Lehigh (38-17) scored a run in the home half of the first and that would prove to be enough offense for the defending champions. Jen Colquhoun used a one-out sac fly to score lead-off hitter Rosie Roessel whose bunt single rolled just 12 inches from home plate to start the inning.

Meanwhile Lehigh starting pitcher Emily Bausher cruised through the first three innings before giving up a hit. She struck out five straight Lafayette batters before senior Gwen Turner slapped a single to right to start the fourth inning. The Leopards loaded the bases with two outs as Stacey Dorn's walk and Melissa Robinson's infield single put pressure on Bausher. Carly Feiro popped out to end the threat.

In the sixth, Lehigh gave itself some breathing room. Julie Fernandez's one-out double scored Audra Wood who had ripped a double off the glove of third baseman Lauren Murphy. Robinson stopped the rally there, getting two groundouts to end the inning.

The Leopards went down in order in the seventh for the 2-0 final.

Robinson (12-23) was solid on the mound, allowing two runs on five hits. Bausher (17-10) struck out 10 and gave up two hits in the win.
