BETHLEHEM, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette softball team was swept by Lehigh in Patriot League doubleheader action on Saturday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks posted a 15-1 victory in the opener and then won 5-2 in the nightcap.

Shana Treon and Stephanie Digneo paced Lehigh in game one, each finishing 3-for-3 with two RBI.

The Mountain Hawks scored one run in the first on Digneo's RBI single.

Lafayette answered right back in the top of the second, as Becky Foley led off with a double and then Meghan Davis followed with a double to left to score Foley, tying the game at 1-1.

Lehigh exploded for four runs in the home half of the second, as the Mountain Hawks scored four runs on four hits. Treon's two-run triple to right center highlighted the inning, while Digneo added another run-scoring single.

The Mountain Hawks tacked one more on in the third before striking for nine runs in the bottom of the fourth to open up the 15-1 lead.

Jackie Fitzgerald took the loss for the Leopards, while Jenny Bender scattered three hits over five innings to pick up the win for Lehigh.

In game two, Lehigh got the scoring underway with two runs on two hits in the bottom of the first. Treon walked and Xochitl Mota singled, and then Mary Weider delivered a two-run single to give Lehigh a 2-0 lead.

The Mountain Hawks padded their lead in the second as Digneo blasted a two-run triple to put Lehigh ahead 4-0.

Lafayette sliced the lead in half in the top of the third. Danielle Bernotsky singled and Gianna Lopreato walked to put runners at first and second. Mara Shainheit then smacked a two-run triple to make the score 4-2.

 

 

Pinch runner Edoho Awaih scored an unearned run on a wild pitch to put Lehigh back in front 5-2 after five innings.

Emily Ling earned the win for Lehigh on the rubber, while Lauren Belowich took the loss for the Leopards.

Lafayette (4-18, 1-7) plays a second doubleheader at Lehigh on Sunday with the first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.
