WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Leopards opened up Patriot League play dropping both games in the series against Army on Saturday afternoon. Lafayette tied the first game up in the sixth but was unable to hold on as the Black Knights went on to win 5-4. They dropped their second game 9-2 to Army later in the day.
In the first game of the series, Stacey Kushner doubled to right field, her third of the season. Kristin Gaganio followed with a double of her own, bringing home Kushner for the early lead, Lafayette (9-12, 0-2) 1-0.
Army tied the game when Clara Navarro singled to right field for the RBI as Jen Parsons scored.
The Black Knights (14-10, 2-0) got the first lead of the game as they scored three runs in the third inning with two on base as Erin McClain came up to bat and hit her second home run of the season. Army took a 4-3 lead.
Karr pitched six innings in the loss, giving up nine hits, five runs and striking out four.
In the later game, Lafayette scored its first run in the opening inning as freshman Jordan Parsons doubled bringing Karr in to lead 1-0.
The Black Knights came back scoring one run in the third inning, McClain singled to the shortstop and Tiffany Held scored.
In the forth inning, with Turner on second after walking and then stealing, Dorn singled to center field as Turner came in to cut the Army lead, 3-2.
The two Leopard runs were not enough as the Black Knights went on to score four runs in the fifth and a pair in the sixth to end the game, 9-2.
Noel pitched four innings giving up 11 hits and allowing six runs. She struck out seven of 26 batters. Relief pitcher Christine Hilcken pitched less than one inning giving up two runs.
The Leopards and Black Knights close out their series tomorrow at West Point beginning at 1 p.m.
