Solid Effort Ends In 9-5 Defeat For Lafayette, Ruckno
March 17, 2006
GEORGETOWN, Del. (www.lafayette.edu) - Sophomore shortstop Kristen Ruckno cracked Lafayette's first homer of the year, but the Leopards had trouble keeping St. Peter's off the bases en route to 9-5 St. Patrick's Day defeat at Delaware State's Bash at the Beach Tournament.
Lafayette (2-7) was paced by Ruckno's three-run blast in the fifth, which scored junior Jill Masterton and rookie Robyn Matchett. The Peahens scattered nine runs over six innings, plating three insurance scores in the sixth to put the game away.
Junior designated player Megan Averbuch went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles on the day.
Senior co-captain Lauren Belowich tossed all seven innings and moved to 1-4 on the young season. St. Peter's Michelle Blair earned the win.
Lafayette was scheduled to play Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday night, but the game was postponed and is expected to be rescheduled for Saturday afternoon. The Leopards are also slated to play La Salle and Providence at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.
