Meaghan Asselta is in her second season at the helm of the Leopards.

She was named the head coach of the Lafayette softball team in July 2010. Asselta joined Lafayette after serving as head coach at Manhattan College from 2006-09 and the 2010 season as the assistant softball coach at the University of Rhode Island.

Prior to her arrival to URI, Asselta spent three years as the head coach at Manhattan College, where she helped lead the Jaspers to the Semifinals of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) tournament in 2009. The 2009 team also recorded a school-record 11 conference wins and earned a share of the MAAC regular-season title for the first time in the program's history. Asselta was named the 2009 Anaconda Sports MAAC Coach of the Year following that run.

From 2005 until her arrival at Manhattan, the Ramsey, N.J., native served as head coach of the 18U Gold Fall/Summer Pride softball team, a club team that competed in numerous elite College Showcase Tournaments nationwide. While at the gold level, she's coached 14 players to date, who have received Division I scholarships.

She began her coaching career in 2003 after graduating from Rutgers University with a degree in Exercise Science & Sports Studies while playing from 2001-03, serving as the team captain her junior and senior year. Asselta was named to the NJ All-Century Softball Team-Shortstop by the Star Ledger in 1999.

From 2003-05, Asselta served as varsity head coach of Montclair Kimberley Academy in Montclair, N.J., where she led her squad to back-to-back state championships in 2004 and 2005. She guided her team a top five ranking in the Newark Star Ledger's end of year softball rankings during each of her two seasons at the helm of the Cougars and was named the 2005 Coach of The Year.

Asselta also coached a season at Drew University from 2005-06.
