Lafayette Standout Heidi Caruso '94 Selected to Patriot League Women's Soccer All-Decade Team

Nov. 3, 2000

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Former Lafayette standout Heidi Caruso '94 was recently named to the Patriot League Women's Soccer All-Decade Team. The squad is comprised of 10 players and a goalkeeper.

Caruso remains Lafayette's all-time leading scorer, and holds five women's soccer school records, including every career and single-season scoring record with the exception of single-season assists. Caruso scored 63 goals and passed for 17 assists over her 68-game career, accounting for over 46 percent of the Leopards' goals during her tenure. She led the team in scoring four years in a row and earned All-Patriot League First-Team honors three times.

Caruso enjoyed her finest campaign as a sophomore when she netted a school-record 18 goals and added five assists in 1991. That season's performance led to her being named Patriot League Player of the Year. She recorded three or more goals nine times in her career (four times in 1993) and had 16 contests in which she scored two or more goals. Perhaps one of her most memorable games was against Gettysburg in 1990 when she set a school record for most goals in a game with four in a 9-1 victory.

Along with numerous Patriot League Player of the Week accolades throughout her four years, Caruso was named to the 1993 Division I NSCAA/Umbro All-Central Region Second Team which was made up of players from 47 institutions.

In addition to her dominating play on the soccer field, Caruso also excelled on the basketball court for the Leopards. She became the NCAA career steals leader (men and women) with 525 career takeaways, as well as holding the record for steals in a season (168) and steals per game average (6.0). Caruso also shares the record for steals in a game (14, at Kansas State, 12/5/92). At one time she held the most NCAA women's basketball records of any non-scholarship student-athlete (4). She was also named to the All-Patriot League First Team in her junior and senior years.

Success translated from the field to the classroom where the four-time Dean's List student earned Academic All-America honors as well as receiving the Patriot League's Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete award twice. In 1994, she was also honored as a member of the GTE Academic All-America Team.

The All-Decade team is comprised of 10 players including a goalkeeper and was selected by a committee consisting of head coaches, institutional sports information liaisons and administrative liaisons.

Those included on the All-Decade roster are: defenders Nicole Anapu (Navy '99), Kaitlyln Lynch (Colgate '95), and Jessica Tuthill (Colgate '94), midfielders Jennifer Hughes (Colgate '97), Tosie LeGrand (Army '94), and Tara Williams (Army '94), and forwards Heidi Caruso (Lafayette '94), Alexis Albano (Army '96), Nicole D'Orazio (Colgate '98), and Holly Pedley (Army '98).
