Kissell Named PL Rookie of the Week

Sept. 25, 2017

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Freshman Krista Kissell of the Lafayette women’s soccer team was selected as the Patriot League Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.

Kissell, who saw her first action of the season against Bucknell on Sept. 16, has stepped right into an impact role for the Maroon and White over the past two weeks. The Cresco, Pa. native saw 27 minutes of action in her opening game before playing a crucial role this past weekend.

Falling behind 1-0 for the majority of the contest at Holy Cross on Saturday, Kissell came through late to force the game into overtime. Running under a long pass from senior Gabrielle Lassinger, she was able to corral the ball and fire a shot into the top corner in the 84th minute to equalize with her first collegiate tally. The Maroon and White were able to hold on for the final 26 minutes, earning a point in a 1-1 draw.

Kissell was a four-year starter and two-year captain at Notre Dame High School a season ago. She holds her school’s scoring record with 126 markers over her four seasons, and was named to the 2016 Pennsylvania Girls Soccer All-State Team.

The Maroon and White, sitting at 2-4-2 on the season overall and 0-1-1 in Patriot League play, return to action on Wednesday at Mike Bourger ’44 Field at Oaks Stadium, hosting Army for a 7 p.m. contest.
