CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – A day after having a hand in each of Lafayette’s goals in a 2-1 victory over Manhattan, Lafayette’s Alyssa Finelli was named the Patriot League’s BRINE Offensive Player of the Week. It was the first weekly award of her career.
Finelli picked up an assist on Lafayette’s first goal of the game when she slid a pass through the Manhattan defense for freshman Kaelin King, who put the Leopards ahead 1-0 in the 23rd minute. King's goal was the first of her career.
Later in the match with the score tied at 1-1 in the 68th minute, Finelli took a cross from Alex Reisinger inside the penalty area and netted the game-winning goal with a right-footed finish inside the near post. The goal gave her the second three-point game of her career and was her seventh as a Leopard. The Maroon and White held on from that point and secured their fourth consecutive home-opening win.
Finelli and the Leopards return to the pitch at Oaks Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 1 for a 1 p.m. meeting with Sacred Heart. The game is the first of a soccer doubleheader and comes before the men’s team kicks off against Bryant at 4 p.m.
