Four Named to College Sports Madness Preseason Team

Aug. 13, 2012

EASTON, Pa. - Four members of the Lafayette women's soccer team were named to College Sports Madness' Preseason All-Conference Teams and goalkeeper Lauren Smedley was chosen as the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, the organization announced on Monday.

Smedley earned a spot on the First Team along with defenders Catherine Galgano and Alex Reisinger, while midfielder Allison Stone was a Second Team selection. Smedley's honor comes as she enters her senior season with 20 shutouts and a 1.01 goals-against average in 52 career matches. She currently sits atop the Lafayette record books in clean sheets and ranks eighth in Patriot League history.

Galgano, a junior, and Reisinger, a sophomore, were both Second Team All-Patriot League honorees last season and were integral parts of Lafayette's back line in 2011. Playing in front of Smedley, the duo helped Lafayette post eight shutouts and surrender 14 goals in 17 matches, the lowest total in program history.

Stone, a senior midfielder and and co-captain with Smedley, played in all 17 games in 2011 and scored the game-winning goal against Holy Cross en route to earning Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week recognition.

On Tuesday, the Patriot League will announce its inaugural Preseason All-Patriot League Team, as well as the preseason poll.
