Women's Soccer Celebrates Season at Annual Banquet

EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette women’s soccer program held its annual team banquet to honor the 2013 team and its three seniors on Saturday afternoon at Pfenning Alumni Center.
Catherine Galgano ’14 was chosen by her teammates to receive the Player’s Player of the Year award. The Leopards’ team captain and staple on the back line, played in 62 matches over her four seasons on College Hill. Galgano was a key piece to four Lafayette shutouts in 2013 and was one of 22 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selections. Galgano earned a 3.43 grade-point average as a Neuroscience major during the fall semester.
Goalkeeper Kelly Sposato’14 was recognized with the 2013 Leopard Award, an honor presented annually by the coaches to a student-athlete that embodies the spirit of Lafayette soccer including teamwork, selflessness and community spirit.
Allie Torru ’16 claimed the program’s inaugural Player’s Young Player of the Year Award. Only freshmen and sophomores are eligible for the honor, which is voted on by the players. Torru played in all 17 games during her sophomore season and made 14 starts in the midfield where she tied for third on the team in points with a pair of goals and three assists.
Academically, Jaclyn Giordano ’15 was the favorite for the Barbara Lipkin Student Athlete Award for her accomplishments in the classroom as an Economics major. Giordano earned a place on the Academic All-Patriot League Team in 2013 and maintains a 3.57 cumulative GPA.
Galgano, Sposato and Avery Jackson ’14 were celebrated for their commitment to the program and will graduate in May as members of the Class of 2014.
