NEWARK, Del. - Playing for the second time in less than 48 hours, the Lafayette women's soccer team dropped its second straight 1-0 decision to Towson on Sunday afternoon at the Univ. of Delaware.

Lafayette put the pressure on the Tiger defense in the opening minutes, as freshman Dana Moyer unloaded a shot wide of goal, just 49 seconds into the contest.

Both teams struggled through a midfield battle during the opening half, with Towson tallying three shots in the opening 45 minutes to Lafayette's two shots in the first stanza. Sophomore goalkeeper Brittany Futterknecht held the Tiger offense scoreless, stopping Towson's one shot on goal.

Both teams traded goalkeepers to commence the second half, as the Leopards turned to senior goalkeeper Hannah Fink. Towson controlled the majority of the half, tallying 10 shots in the final 45 minutes. Fink made three stops in her 45 minutes of work.

The Tigers continued to push the Lafayette defense and capitalized on a 73rd minute opportunity when Samantha Young headed home her first goal of the season off a Sarah Thomas assist.

A physical second half saw three yellow cards and 14 fouls handed out in the closing half.

Senior Lauren Hinkel, sophomore Olivia Hawes and freshman Janelle Pierson all recorded shots on goal or the Leopards.

Lafayette closes out season-opening four-game road trip on Friday when it travels to Monmouth. Gametime is set for 4 p.m. in West Long Branch, N.J.
